Prepping Indoor Plants for Winter

We all start preparing in anticipation of winter like replacing our wardrobes with winter coats. Just like you your plants may as well need a little love. Here are some tips or more precisely reminders, from Foliage World for your indoor plants that’ll help them enjoy the winter time.

Winter Prep Watering

Cut Down on Watering

As we approach winter it is important to cut down on watering and fertilization. The heat isn’t strong enough to evaporate water. Also, the growth of most plants is stagnant during this time. If you see your plants growing even during winter you can continue to fertilize by cutting down the proportions to half . Instead of scheduled watering, you can water them when they are dry. It is better to under water your plants than to overwater them.

Winter Prep Light

Move Plants Closer to Windows

During the winter the sunlight hits at a shallow angle and hence not harsh. Further the days are short. To maximize the light your plants receive move them close to the windows. Moving plants to southern facing windows would also be desirable as they would receive sunlight throughout the day.

Winter Prep Dusting

Clean Windows & Leaves

Clean windows will permit maximum light transmission. Clean leaves will enable a more efficient photosynthesis process for plants to survive, if not thrive. Nonetheless, you can use your plants as an excuse to clean your home 😉

Winter Prep Placement

Move Plants away from the Vent

Plants do not like dry hot air. It may affect its growth and can potentially harm them. The sudden change in temperature affects your plants. To avoid this, it’s better to move your plants at least 3 feets away from the air vents.
