Butterworts Assorted

Butterworts (genus Pinguicula) are carnivorous plants known for their unique method of trapping and digesting insects. They belong to the family Lentibulariaceae and are found in a variety of habitats ranging from tropical to temperate regions. Butterworts have succulent, flat leaves covered with sticky, glandular hairs that secrete a mucilaginous substance. The sticky leaves trap insects, which are then digested by enzymes secreted by the plant. Nutrients from the digested prey are absorbed to supplement the poor soil conditions in which they often grow.
